Sun Microsystems

SUN-MICROSYSTEMSSun Microsystems, Inc. was a company that sold computers, computer components, computer software, and information technology services.

The company made important advances in thin-client computing and networking services, and created the Java programming language.

Sun was badly hurt when the dot-com bubble burst in 2000, and customers began canceling server orders.

In January 2010, the company was acquired by Oracle Corporation.  Several Sun facilities were shut down.  Its Menlo Park campus is now occupied by Facebook.
