Intel Corporation is one of the world’s largest and highest-valued semiconductor chip makers. Its “Intel Inside” marketing marketing campaign made Intel a household name.
Although Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it wasn’t until the boom in the personal computer business, in the mid-80’s, that the company focussed on this activity.
Intel’s heavy investment in microprocessor development in the 1990s drove rapid advances in desktop and portable computers. There is a small museum of semiconductor technology at Intel headquarters.
