February 27, 2015:  Google today revealed plans for a new company headquarters in Mountain View, CA. This is the first headquarters facility Google is building from the ground up. Previous facilities were based around buildings acquired from other companies (chiefly Silicon Graphics, as that company downsized).

The new facility is designed to be flexible, allowing the company to reconfigure the space as requirements change. According to Google, “The idea is simple. Instead of constructing immoveable concrete buildings, we’ll create lightweight block-like structures which can be moved around easily as we invest in new product areas.”

Plans for the facility must still be approved by the Mountain View city council.
